Leslie - The "BRAIN"
Director of Operations, All Canadian Self Storage
Leslie began with All Canadian Self-Storage in 2007 as Manager of the 1 Laird Drive location and played a role in leasing the entire facility in a short period of time. In addition, he contributed to building one of the most successful U-Haul programs of any self storage in Canada as well as a highly successful sales strategy for boxes and packing supplies. Leslie helped implement various policies for the Laird location, which ultimately led to updating and streamlining the All Canadian Self Storage company manual. These changes included setting up policies surrounding the hiring and training of employees.
In his time with All Canadian Self Storage Leslie trained and promoted staff from entry level, to assistant management, to management. He also took on the project lead for the building of the second phase and construction of 1 Laird Drive. On a community level, Leslie worked closely with the board of directors for Leaside Business Park and built strong ties in the Leaside community- with both businesses and residents.
At the corporate level, Leslie directed much of the marketing program, including implementing policies for tracking, utilization of data, and trending with a clear focus on return on investment. He also renegotiated many contracts with vendors, while simultaneously building better relationships with new and current vendors, helping negotiate savings for the company on merchandise as well as telephone, telecom, and energy services. Always interested in new and emerging technologies, Leslie test-piloted benefits for the company, tenants, and the insurer. He has also taken part in numerous self storage conventions in the USA and has visited the U-Haul offices in Phoenix to discuss corporate policies and strategies for improvement. More recently, Leslie assisted in the development of All Canadian Self Storage’s new 207 Weston Road location. This included setting up systems, opening the facility, and bringing it to a state of operation.
On a personal note, Leslie has been married for seven years and is the proud uncle of 2 nieces and 2 nephews. He is highly engaged in local politics, having discussed many issues with city councilors and having participated in many events throughout the city in his role with All Canadian Self Storage. In 2012, Leslie was appointed a judge in the Ontario College Marketing Competition (OCMC). He also spent two years living in Brazil, where he learned to speak Portuguese. His interests include traveling, flying airplanes, and wine tasting (the last two done separately!). Leslie has a goal of one day attaining a pilot’s license.
